Shared Hosting Implementation no comments
There are two ways that shared hosting can be implemented. These include IP-based and name-based, albeit a few control panels do enable a mixture of the two on a single server. In IP dedicated hosting, each web host will have a separate IP address. The server involved is configured with multiple interfaces related to the physical network. The software the web server uses enables the IP address entered by a client to point to a specific web site. Shared, or name-based, IP hosting involves serving a conglomerate of hostnames on a single server with a single IP address.
There are a few disadvantages to name-based, or shared, IP hosting. For example, they will not function with very old HTTP/1.0 browsers that don’t send hostnames as part of the requests. This is not a common issue though since HTTP/1.1, which does support hostname usage, was issued in 1999. In addition, name-based hosting doesn’t properly support HTTPS websites. In effect, the same digital certificate must be shared by all websites that have the same IP address.
